NEW BUILD HOUSING DEVELOPMENT SUCCESSFULLY FOCUSSING ON PLACE-MAKING AND FUTURE SUSTAINABILITY
The development consists of 24 private and affordable houses on a relatively secluded site on the western edge of Aviemore. Set close to the street edge, the houses create an intimate and truly distinctive appearance, reflecting the aspirations of current government planning policies. Building design focuses on the formation of two storey accommodation to the street side of the homes with the roof pitch falling away from the front to create 1 1/2 storey volumes to the rear living spaces which are open to upper floor balconies. To further enhance the living spaces, floor to ceiling picture windows have been installed, flooding the spaces and the rear of the houses with light.
The development is heated by a communal biomass heating plant, ensuring that it scores highly in terms of sustainability and its impact on finite fuel resources.
