Telford Centre, Fort Augustus supported housing submitted nomination for Surf Awards
The Telford Centre is an Older Person’s Care Home in the Highland village of Fort Augustus, catering for a range of needs from general to sheltered care, Dementia and End of Life provision. It’s also a hub, offering activities, clubs and a venue for services such as chiropody and hairdressing for its residents and the wider elderly community.
Fort Augustus is a rural community which strives for and invests in good local service provision. Its older residents identified a gap and the project was born.
Residents able to live independently with support from visiting Carers were finding Care packages difficult to secure, due to rural recruitment issues and availability of suitable/adaptable housing.
The Project responded by developing 6 highly flexible and adaptable self contained bungalows within the grounds of the Telford Centre, creating a cluster which is more easily serviced by visiting Carers, and is close enough for residents to join in with and seek support from the Centre whilst maintaining their independence in their own home for as long as possible.
